What is the total sum I can apply for?
- £1000.
What do you mean by ‘early career researcher’?
- Any academic who is within 8 years of completing their PhD.
What do you mean by ‘substantive teaching or research position’?
- A permanent or long-term position which provides access to institutional funding.
Do I have to have completed my corrections/been officially awarded my PhD?
- No, but you must have had and passed your viva voce or equivalent PhD examination.
I have already applied for conference funding elsewhere, am I still able to apply for the Leah Scragg Bursary?
- Yes. However, we do ask that you briefly summarise where and for how much you have applied elsewhere.
Does the paper have to be part of a panel?
- The paper simply needs to be a part of a conference, but can be part of a panel, seminar, workshop, etc.
Does the conference have to be international?
- You must be applying to travel internationally, as the fund seeks to encourage international links for early career researchers. Any application for a conference in the country in which the applicant is a resident will be automatically rejected.
When will I hear about the outcome of my application?
- Outcomes will be announced in mid-November, following The Malone Society Council’s autumn meeting.
Will you be able to provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates?
- Given the number of applicants this will not be feasible.
